Yarn Along --April 29

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~ From Ginny

I made a super cute sunhat for Kimberly this week....she pick out the colors and I think she made a wonderful choice. Here is a link to this fun pattern.
I'm also finishing up my knitting for the Preemie Project. I LOVE this new to me pattern for stay on booties.  The pattern is on the Preemie Project page
My books are all about school this week.  We are studying Asia and India in general.
Our fun read aloud is Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing...great fun for all the kids.

Best...Bookmark...Ever....Photo Tutorial

The best bookmark ever.....

Flower Power

After drying the flower off and then cutting off the blossom...Luke discovered water dripping out of the cut end of the stem.
Things are almost all melted outside and our plants are just starting to poke their heads out of the ground....but over at Mom and Dad's the daffodils are in full bloom...
It's time for our tradition plant unit.
We have been busy planting seeds indoors, in ziploc bags and soon we will begin our bean pole teepee.
After discovering flowing water from the stem, Luke carefully removed the outside of the stem...he found the veins which were holding the water.
Kimmy, digging into her flower, or second flower....or third flower.
We found all the parts of the daffodil blossom. Ovary is above.
Actually are they just seeds or do we call them eggs at this point?
We dissected our flowers on black construction paper.  This really helped us "see" the individual parts of the flower...especially the pollen.

We have put this visual up on our learning wall....Happy Spring Homeschooling everyone.

Play Ball!!! Welcome to the 2015 Little League Season

We headed out to the ballpark this morning.  The temperature was a balmy 36 degrees.  Thankfully the sun was shining for the first time in a week and thankfully we wore our winter coats.
Luke moved up a level...he now plays for a AAA team. He is the second little guy from the left in the bottom row.  The only problem that I see is that this is the first year a score is keep for the games.  Today didn't turn out in our teams favor and Luke was pretty upset.
Kim got a hit every time she was up to bat....she is a real little athlete.
Luke practicing pitching with Mark.
Kimberly came in to pitch for her team....she was shaking to much from the below freezing windchill she was sent to the bench to retrieve her winter coat.
She is a good little pitcher.

We packed a picnic and saved a bunch of money.  That concession stand is pricey when we are feeding 5 of us.

We may not of been happy with the final score, but it was a great start to the season.

Keeping kids busy....Baking Soda Art

Weekly Wrap-Up
This is a great way to keep the kids busy, and you have everything you need in your cupboard.
Fizz art.
Baking soda art.
pour baking soda onto a cookie tray with sides.
Each of the kids used about 1/2 cup of white vinegar
mixed with several drops of food coloring.
Using medicine droppers...drip the colored vinegar onto the baking soda.
It fizzes and bubbles.  We used primary colors---so it was fun to watch the colors mix and make secondary colors.
Each of the kids spend quite a long time "fizzing".
This is a great idea for a rainy day....when you are done, used boiling water to wash the goop down the kitchen sink drain.  It helps keep odors away.
I'm not sure what Gracie was thinking at this time....but I couldn't resist this photo!
