Non-Fiction Monday::Marie Curie's Search for Radium

I decided to join in the Non-Fiction Monday Roundup over at the Picture Book of the Day website. I am always checking this site out to find interesting books to read aloud to the kids, but it is nice to have the incentive to find a non-fiction book to share weekly.
Today we enjoyed Marie Curie's Search of Radium. "The true story of one woman whose extraordinary persistence and determination proved the existence of radium and opened the gateway to the nuclear age"
From the book: " But she'd already tested all the elements. The idea that entered her mind then sent a thrill right through her. A new element. An unknown substance. Something never before seen. Her growing excitement captured Dr. Curie's attention and he took his first step onto the mountain beside her. Something was hiding in that black rock. Something was sending out extraordinary rays. Something unknown and unseen--unless they could find it. Their search began."
My 7 and 8 year olds sat through this read aloud without any problem. It says it is for grades 3-7, but my younger kids enjoyed this and it led to more investigation into the nuclear age. I was surprised though, that when my 7 year old got out our rock collection after reading this, she wanted to make sure nothing was radioactive in her rocks.
